Best Star Wars fan films : a personal selection

The following are the best Star Wars fan films in my opinion. I dare say they’re much closer to the original trilogy’s spirit than any SW commercial movie made since the trilogy.

Hardware Wars (1978). The original Star Wars parody and the eldest SW fan film. The best one according to George Lucas
Star Wars : Brightstar (2022). A long time ago in a galaxy far far away, a fugitive family living in peace must brace itself when their past has tracked them down. Exceptionaly well scripted and played. In the true spirit of the Force
After Endor (2023-2024). After being unconscious for several hours, a Scout trooper wakes up in the middle of the Endor forest, unaware of the destruction of the second Death Star. No one is responding to communications. Between the presence of Rebel troops and hostile Ewoks, he is left to fend for himself, or nearly so. In his attempt to escape, he gets some unexpected help
Last Trial (2023). 18 years after the great Jedi purge and the rise of the galactic empire, a lost padawan acting as a rebel spy and a rookie stormtrooper face the hardest and most important trial of their lives whilst surrounded by a storm of smoke, fire and thousands of blaster bolts
Kenobi (2019). After years in hiding, Obi-Wan Kenobi struggles to reconnect with the Force in order to protect Luke Skywalker from Imperial forces
Skywalker’s apprentice (2019). In the wake of the destruction of Starkiller Base, a young Jedi knight, one of the few surviving pupils of Master Luke Skywalker, gathers his own Padawans for a learning lesson in the ways of the Force. However, this simple exercise soon turns dangerous when a sinister visitor, a Knight of Ren, comes looking for the Jedi’s legendary teacher
Hoshino (2016). The tale of blind Jedi Master Ko Hoshino and her journey to becoming one with the Force when she was young and impatient
Star Wars : Premonition (2022). After seeing a glimpse into the future, a young mother must stand against the dark forces of fate. As a lightsaber duel, the film won an award at SaberComp 2022, but it’s more than that. You’ll want to know the end. Remarquably filmed, and a remarquable music score
Echoes of the Force : Tales from the Outer Rim (2022). A mysterious ship crash lands on a mining planet in the outer rim, setting off a perilous course of events for two humble outpost workers. In parts inferior — apart from the laser saber fights — to other fan films listed here, but globally worth the watch
Odyssey : A Star Wars Story (2018). A team of rebel soldiers on an offensive operation against an empire facility ; must make a decision that could mean life or death. A tad self-righteous but well produced
Rebel Scum (2016). A Rebellion pilot is hounded by death from the merciless Empire and a frozen grave, after being abandoned during the retreat of the Rebel Alliance from Hoth
Wingman - An X-Wing Story (2023). A rebel fighter squadron attacks an imperial transport. The new guy carries a heavy load and an ace pilot on a killing spree ...

Not a job for the lighthearted, these hardened soldiers put their lives on the line as they clean up the dark streets and dangerous corridors of Davenport Gateway. An unforgettable intro. The image is grainy, which is normal given the year of shooting

The story follows a trio of Imperial survivors, an inexperienced junior officer, and her two grizzled stormtrooper companions, as they battle to survive amongst the wilderness of the hostile forest moon of Endor. Fear is their companion. Grim and bloody. You’ll never feel about the Ewoks the same way

Cad Bane (2021). The bounty hunter Cad Bane teams unexpectedly with a funny Jawa who talks like a Japanese young girl !
Dark Jedi (2019). 6909 BBY. The Second Great Schism had divided the Jedi into a dark and light side once more. They had fallen into the 100 - year darkness. On the planet of Corbos, a decisive battle is raging on

Star Wars : Revelations (2005). One of the eldest SW fan film : resolution is poor (decreasing the window’s size is recommended) but actions scenes are more than ok and the the script is excellent.
